This year has been tough for many. In fact, our communities in eastern Congo have had a lot of hard years recently. But we know that we have the power to make a change, and we sense that change emerging, like the little green shoots that rise from the earth after a hillside burns.
We know that the women we work with never give up, despite the intense hardship they struggle with daily. They are committed to their families, committed to improving their own lives and the lives of others in their community. They are committed to each other.
In the wake of the additional hardship that the Covid pandemic has brought to eastern Congo - in the form of not only disease but also intense hunger due to closed borders, increased prices, and lost income - we have mobilized to feed the most vulnerable among us, including displaced people, pregnant women, elders, young children and infants. We have continued producing sani-pad kits to donate to adolescent girls who are living in displacement camps with little to no privacy. And even now, we are continuing to train motivated women in entrepreneurial and vocational skills, so that they can create a brighter future for themselves and their families.
A brighter world is on the horizon, but we still need to build the bridge, so that everyone has the resources they need to cross it together. Please join us in this life-saving, life-changing work.
